A man who assaulted his ex-partner on two separate occasions, including pushing her off her bicycle, has been sentenced to prison.
Robert Payne, aged 39, was walking with the woman near St Barnabas Church on Mill Road in Cambridge on August 21 of the previous year when he struck her during a dispute.
The following day, as they were riding bikes along Trumpington Road, Payne intentionally caused the woman to fall by knocking her off her bicycle, resulting in facial injuries from her being thrown over the handlebars.
Their relationship came to an end after another quarrel on August 27, but Payne later visited the woman’s home in Trumpington that evening and attempted to enter by smashing her bedroom window.
Police officers responded and detained Payne, who then kicked an officer in the torso.
On March 16 at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court operating as a crown court, Payne, of Alice Bell Close in Cambridge, received a six-month jail sentence after admitting to two counts of assault by beating and assaulting a police officer in the course of duty.
He also admitted to criminal damage, which was ordered to be noted on file.
