UTTOXETER MAN TIMOTHY POWIS CAUGHT WITH 1373 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN SHOCKING CASE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Uttoxeter, Timothy Powis, a 43-year-old man and father of three, was found to be in possession of a vast collection of indecent images of children. The incident came to light in March 2022 when police officers executed a search warrant at his residence and uncovered a significant amount of illicit material on his electronic devices.Authorities arrived at Powis's home on Weaver Road in Uttoxeter early in the morning, precisely at 6:50 am on January 21. Upon knocking, Powis answered the door and was promptly detained on suspicion of possessing and creating indecent images of minors. During the subsequent search, law enforcement officials seized his phone and computer equipment for further examination.
Initial investigations revealed that Powis's devices contained a staggering total of 1,373 indecent images of children. Among these, 302 were classified as Category A, which is the most severe classification, indicating images that depict children being sexually abused. Additionally, investigators recovered 26 images categorized as extreme pornography. The analysis of his digital files further detailed that there were 365 images and three videos in Category B, and 700 images along with two videos in Category C. The presence of such a wide range of illicit material underscores the severity of the case.
Prosecutor Nick Tatlow provided further insight during proceedings at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, explaining that some of the images depicted very young children, including infants and toddlers. The Category A images, in particular, showed actual children being subjected to sexual abuse. The investigation also uncovered numerous internet searches made by Powis, including phrases such as 'Young Teen Porn,' which suggest premeditation and intent.
In addition to the images, authorities found one extreme pornographic video on his devices. The evidence pointed to a disturbing pattern of behavior, with the images and searches indicating a focus on the exploitation of minors.
Timothy Powis, who has a background serving in the Navy, pleaded guilty to six charges related to the creation and possession of indecent images of children, as well as possession of an extreme pornographic image. His crimes spanned from July 23, 2020, to January 28, 2021.
In sentencing, the court decided against immediate imprisonment, opting instead to impose a two-year community order. This decision was made as a direct alternative to a custodial sentence, reflecting the court's assessment of the case and the defendant's circumstances. The case has left a lasting impact on the local community, raising concerns about the safety and protection of children in the area.
