TIMOTHY DAVISON OF WISBECH SENTENCED IN CAMBRIDGE FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES

In March 2007, Timothy Davison, a 55-year-old man from Cross Lane, Wisbech, was sentenced to 21 months in prison for sexually abusing two teenage sisters. Despite appearing as a friendly and caring widower, Cambridge Crown Court was told that Davison exploited his approachable demeanor to sexually assault young women. The court heard that he offered the two sisters, aged 16 and 19 at the time, lifts home in the evenings. However, these outings were used as opportunities for him to grope and touch them inappropriately. The two sisters managed to resist his advances but were too frightened to confide in each other or their family about the repeated attacks. Over time, Davison's unwanted behavior intensified, including sending a 16-year-old girl text messages and letters professing his love for her. When the girl confided in her mother and older sister, they revealed their own experiences of Davison's misconduct. Previously, Davison had served an 18-month sentence in 1988 for indecently assaulting a young girl. He appeared in court after pleading guilty to two counts of sexual touching and one count of sexual assault. Prosecutor Jonathan Seely remarked, "He was very tactile with them and they initially put this down to his friendliness." Defence lawyer Michael Magee noted, "These matters all arose in the aftermath of his wife’s death. They had been together for 37 years." Judge Gareth Hawkesworth sentenced Davison to concurrent six- and nine-month terms for the sexual touching charges, and an additional 15 months for the sexual assault, running consecutively, resulting in a total sentence of 21 months. The judge also warned that Davison demonstrated a limited understanding of his behavior and its implications, indicating that a risk to the public remains.
