THOMAS REAY JAILED FOR 25 YEARS IN NEWCASTLE FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES
December 2025; Thomas Reay, 67, died from natural causes while serving a 25 year sentence at HMP Holme House ______________________________________ A deeply disturbing case involving a man named Thomas Reay has culminated in a lengthy prison sentence after he was convicted of multiple heinous crimes against young girls in Newcastle.The 65-year-old offender, who resided on Hesleyside Drive in Newcastle, inflicted unimaginable suffering on his victims over a span of several years, stripping them of their childhood innocence through repeated acts of sexual violence.
The horrific abuse came to light when the victims, who had endured years of torment, found the strength to confide in a loved one in May of this year.
Their courage in speaking out prompted a thorough investigation by Northumbria Police’s Safeguarding Department.
Following the investigation, Reay was formally charged with a series of child sex offences.
He was subsequently remanded in custody as the legal process unfolded.
In July, Reay pleaded guilty to 16 separate charges related to child sexual offences at Newcastle Crown Court.
The gravity of his crimes was fully recognized during the sentencing hearing held at Durham Crown Court on Tuesday, where he was handed a sentence of 25 years in prison.
This substantial sentence reflects the severity of his actions and the impact on his victims.
Leading the investigation, Detective Constable Paul Armstrong of Northumbria Police expressed his thoughts on the case, stating, “Reay subjected the victims in this case to horrific ordeals over the course of a number of years, and I am pleased the courts have seen fit to hand him a very lengthy custodial sentence.” He emphasized the importance of the victims’ bravery, saying, “Reay is a vile predator who stripped his victims of their childhood innocence through repeated abuse.
I would like to praise the victims for their incredible bravery and courage to come forward because if they had not taken that first step of telling a loved one what had happened, Reay might not be behind bars today.” He further added, “No sentence will ever detract from the trauma they suffered, but I hope this lengthy sentence can provide some degree of closure which will allow them to move forward with their lives.
Protecting the vulnerable and ensuring the most serious offenders like Reay are brought to justice are our top priorities as a Force.” Detective Constable Armstrong also issued a call to others who may have been victims or have information about offenders, urging them to come forward.
“I would urge anyone who has been a victim, or wants to share information about an offender, to get in touch.
We will support you and we will believe you,” he concluded, reaffirming the police’s commitment to safeguarding the community and pursuing justice for victims of such heinous crimes.
