THOMAS MCPHEE'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN PERTH AND AUCHTERARDER LEAD TO CHRISTMAS BEHIND BARS
Thomas McPhee, a former chef and restaurateur from Perth, has been implicated in a disturbing case of prolonged sexual abuse involving two teenage girls. The abuse spanned over four years and took place at various addresses in Auchterarder and Perth, while McPhee was employed at the prestigious Gleneagles Hotel.
The gravity of his actions has left a lasting impact on his victims, with Perth Sheriff Court acknowledging the significant and lifelong trauma inflicted upon them.
McPhee, aged 56 and residing on Caledonian Road in Perth, was scheduled for sentencing after pleading guilty to four counts of historic indecent assault committed during the 2000s.
His criminal record includes a previous stint as head chef and manager at the Red Brolly Inn in Ballinluig.
Despite his guilty plea, the court was informed that a pre-sentencing report had not been completed in time for the scheduled hearing, prompting his legal representative, solicitor David Holmes, to request that McPhee be detained until the report could be finalized in the new year.
During the hearing, Holmes explained that McPhee had been in contact with social work authorities, and although there had been one appointment, the report could not be completed due to business pressures.
Holmes further stated that McPhee intended to have all necessary reports in place by the time of sentencing.
Given the serious nature of the charges, Holmes asked the court to withdraw bail and keep McPhee in custody until the report was ready, suggesting that a custodial sentence was likely.
Judge Jennifer Bain acknowledged that the report had not been prepared through no fault of McPhee’s, and therefore, she decided to defer sentencing and withdraw bail.
McPhee, who attended court carrying a bag of personal belongings, will return for sentencing in February.
The court proceedings revealed the disturbing details of McPhee’s abuse.
The first victim, between the ages of 15 and 18 at the time, recounted how McPhee entered her room while she was sleeping.
She froze and pretended to be asleep as he climbed into her bed.
He then subjected her to approximately four minutes of sexual abuse, during which he reached down her trousers.
She was interrupted by a knock at the door and he left abruptly.
On another occasion, the same girl was molested again after falling asleep on a couch.
She awoke to find McPhee lying on top of her, simulating sexual intercourse.
He left the scene after about two minutes without saying a word.
The second victim, who was 16 when McPhee was 38, also suffered abuse.
He climbed into her bed, groped her breast, and kissed her neck.
On a different night, he digitally penetrated her after putting his hands into her underwear.
When she struggled to escape, McPhee reportedly told her, “You can’t stop me now,” and warned her that screaming would result in her being kicked out.
Years later, the two survivors met in Inverness and discussed reporting McPhee to the police, although they did not disclose the specifics of their abuse at that time.
McPhee was eventually arrested after attending an interview at Dundee police station, bringing his criminal actions to light.
McPhee’s case has garnered significant attention, especially given his previous notoriety, including a headline-making visit to his bistro by boxing champion Tyson Fury.
His actions have caused profound distress to his victims, and his upcoming sentencing is expected to reflect the severity of his crimes.
