May 2012 Judge hands three-year jail term to ‘devious’ sex offender A CONVICTED paedophile who failed to tell the police after he began living with families including one in Boston, has been jailed for three years. Serial sex offender Thomas McPhee did not inform the authorities of the change in his addresses, Lincoln Crown Court was told on Thursday. McPhee spent several weeks living at the home of a “vulnerable woman” in Lincoln during the autumn of 2010, the court was told. Mark Knowles, prosecuting, said McPhee had wrongly informed the police that he was living at a homeless shelter in Lincoln, when instead he spent three nights at one address before moving to another family home on Newland Street West, in Lincoln’s West End. He initially slept on a sofa but on one occasion stayed in the same bedroom as a 12-year-old boy. He then spent eight weeks living at a different address in Chapel Street, Boston, without telling the police, Mr Knowles said. The 45-year-old, of no fixed address, admitted breaking the terms of a sex offender order made on him in 2002 and two further charges of failing to comply with his address notification. Judge Michael Heath heard McPhee had six previous convictions for failing to comply with his notification and was jailed for eight years at Nottingham Crown Court in 2003. Gareth Wheetman, mitigating, told the court McPhee had already spent 147 days in custody since his arrest. He added: “This was not a deliberate flouting of the notification, he was homeless.” Passing sentence, Judge Heath said he was satisfied that McPhee targeted women with children. He said: “You are a sex offender, you are a paedophile, you have many aliases. “I’m sure you are a devious man and you have made it difficult for the police to keep track of you.” McPhee was also made the subject of Sexual Offences Prevention Order banning him from contacting, approaching, living and working with any child under 16.
