THOMAS IAN MESSENGER SENTENCED IN CARLISLE FOR HISTORIC RAPE CASE

During the attack, Messenger reportedly covered the victim's mouth with his hand, attempting to silence her as he committed the assault.
Following the incident, Messenger allegedly told the girl that she should keep the event a secret, emphasizing that it was their 'secret.' Messenger had denied the charges of rape, but after a trial in the crown court, a jury found him guilty.
The court heard emotional testimony from the victim, who had written moving statements that were read aloud during the sentencing hearing.
These statements detailed the long-lasting psychological effects the assault had on her, including struggles with mental health issues and depression.
The victim described feeling like a 'lost person' during her teenage years, indicating how deeply the trauma affected her development and sense of self.
