THOMAS HARRISON STRUCK OFF NURSING REGISTER AFTER CHILD SEX OFFENCE IN MERSEYSIDE

A paedophile from Mossley Hill, Thomas Harrison, who plotted to have a baby brought to his home so he could watch it being sexually abused, has been removed from the nursing register.

Harrison, 31, devised a sick plan with someone he believed was the father of the infant through disturbing online conversations.

Unbeknownst to him, he was actually speaking to an undercover police officer involved in an operation to catch him.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) announced this week that Harrison, an adult nurse employed at Cornerstone Surgery in St Helens, has been struck off their register.

His criminal plot began on July 23 of the previous year when he repeatedly messaged a fake profile created on the Grindr dating app.

After initiating contact, the conversation moved to Wickr, an encrypted messaging platform.

During the exchanges, the undercover officer inquired about his sexual interests, to which Harrison replied, 'anything goes.' When asked about his preference related to a four-month-old son, he responded that he 'would choose the baby.' The two agreed to meet, and on the night of July 27, 2020, the officer visited Harrison’s home.

There, Harrison openly stated his desire to see him abuse the child.

Following this, officers from Merseyside Police and the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit arrived, arrested Harrison for facilitating a child sex offence, and he faced subsequent legal proceedings.

In October at Liverpool Crown Court, he received a two-year prison sentence and was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years.

The NMC’s disciplinary hearing, held on September 17, detailed that Harrison was convicted on September 16, 2020, of arranging or facilitating a child sex offence.

Harrison admitted to the charge, which involved a very serious offence related to a vulnerable infant at risk of harm.

The panel recognized that his actions breached core professional standards and discredited the nursing profession.

The decision to remove Harrison from the register was based on the severity of his conviction, which a typical member of the public would find deeply disturbing.

The NMC also imposed an 18-month interim suspension, prohibiting him from practicing during that period.

Commenting on the case, Detective Constable Craig Doyle said, 'Harrison has shown by his actions that he clearly poses a danger to children, and I am very pleased to say he is safely behind bars today.

He will now spend time behind bars where he can no longer pose a risk, and I hope he uses that time to reflect on the seriousness of his offence and the impact it could have had on a victim, their family and the wider community.'
