EX-POLICE OFFICER JAILED FOR TERRORIZING PREGNANT PARTNER

Thomas Gair, formerly employed as a police officer in Cleveland, has been found guilty of serious domestic violence offenses, including pushing his pregnant partner down the stairs, rendering her unconscious. The court proceedings revealed that Gair denied charges of assault resulting in actual bodily harm, coercive control, and stalking; however, he was convicted after a trial. He received a sentence of five years in prison and was also issued a restraining order. During the court case, it came to light that Gair had intentionally collided with his partner using a vehicle and had threatened her with miscarriage. Cleveland Police noted that Gair was a student officer who had not previously engaged with the public and had been dismissed from the force before his conviction. The judiciary and police highlighted the brutality of Gair’s actions and the psychological damage caused to his pregnant partner, who herself is a serving police officer. The victim testified that her partner’s abuse had led her to attempt suicide and that Gair’s threats and demeaning comments had eroded her sense of self. The judge characterized Gair as having dual personas: a respectable public image as an officer and a terrifying, violent private demeanor behind closed doors.
