THOMAS DOWRICK SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS FOR RAPE IN CORNWALL FROM GATESHEAD

A man identified as Thomas Dowrick has been handed down an 18-year prison sentence after being found guilty of raping a teenage girl in Cornwall. The 61-year-old, who resides on Dykes Way in Gateshead, was convicted by a jury following a detailed trial that uncovered the disturbing details of his crimes. The offenses involved sexual abuse committed against a girl aged between 12 and 15 years old, with the incidents dating back to the 1990s.

During the proceedings at Truro Crown Court, Judge John Neligan addressed the court, emphasizing the psychological manipulation employed by Dowrick during the abuse. The judge remarked, "You programmed her mind to satisfy your sexual desires," highlighting the calculated and manipulative nature of the crimes. Thomas Dowrick, who had previously maintained a commendable record during his service in the Army, later transitioned into a career as a long-distance lorry driver. He eventually became a business owner, operating his own garage in Cornwall. Despite his seemingly stable life, the court found sufficient evidence to convict him of the heinous acts committed decades ago.

In addition to the prison sentence, Dowrick has been ordered to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community.
