KILMARNOCK PAEDOPHILE BACK IN COURT AFTER INSANITY VERDICT

A convicted and previously judged insane paedophile, Thomas Crawford, age 52, of St Maurs Crescent, Kilmarnock, appeared before Sheriff Elizabeth McFarlane at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week. The court examined whether he breached the terms of the sex offenders register by failing to provide police with his details in September of the previous year. Additionally, he was accused of violating a bail condition that prohibited contact with individuals under 16. That particular charge was dropped during the recent hearing. The sheriff determined the facts related to the first charge were proven but did not impose further sanctions. Crawford is currently under a three-year supervision and treatment order, previously imposed in April, nearly a year after he was scheduled for trial on three charges of lewd, indecent, and libidinous behavior. Due to psychiatric evaluations declaring him insane and unfit to stand trial, an examination of facts was held instead. During this process, the court heard testimonies from two women, one aged 24 and another 19, both describing abuse by Crawford spanning over two decades. The woman aged 24 recounted incidents dating back to when she was six or seven, including being pinned to a bed and having her pyjama trousers pulled down, and an attempt by Crawford to get her to touch him. The woman aged 19 stated that Crawford asked her to sit on his knee when she was only eight and touched her with his fingers. Sheriff McFarlane acknowledged the reliability of the evidence, stating, 'I have no difficulty, given the evidence, all very clear and reliable, that you did these things.'
