WOMAN SEXUALLY ASSAULTED AT KNIFEPOINT BY INTRUDER SHE'D DIDN'T KNOW
A woman was forcibly assaulted at knifepoint by an unknown man in her residence.The assailant, identified as Thamer Alrabie, aged 36, confessed to entering the property unlawfully to commit a sexual offence, as well as to sexual assault, physical assault, and threatening her with a bladed weapon.
Alrabie, a resident of Leckwith, broke into the woman's home on the night of January 12, 2025.
During the attack, he sexually assaulted her while wielding a knife.
The assault was halted when the victim’s father was awakened by the noise and courageously intervened, defending his daughter.
The woman, who survived the attack, described herself as a survivor and emphasized her determination not to let the incident define her future.
She stated: "I will not let the rest of my life be dictated by that one night as a ‘victim’.
I am a survivor.
And I will build my path back." South Wales Police managed to identify and arrest Alrabie within 24 hours of the incident.
He pleaded guilty to charges of trespassing with intent to commit a sexual offence, sexual assault, assault causing harm, and threatening someone with a bladed weapon.
His sentencing took place at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday, November 21, resulting in a prison term of nine years and two months.
Detective Constable Luke Rimes from South Wales Police commented: "Stranger attacks such as these are extremely unusual in south Wales but, in Thamer Alrabie we had an extremely dangerous individual.
"Everyone has the right to feel safe in their own home and this horrific incident is every woman’s worst nightmare.
How differently the night may have ended, had it not been for her father’s brave intervention.
"The victim has shown remarkable courage and strength to pursue this matter.
We hope the outcome at court brings her some peace and allows her to start feeling safe again."
