TEESSIDE MAN JAILED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
Terry Davison, aged 47, was found guilty of multiple sexual abuse offences involving a young child during the 1990s on Teesside. The abuse took place when Davison was himself a minor. The court was informed that he had threatened his victim with his German Shepherd dog if they ever reported the misconduct. Initially denying the charges, Davison later admitted to six counts of indecent assault on a child, along with two counts each of inciting a child to commit gross indecency and buggery. His solicitor argued that he had a troubled upbringing marked by domestic violence and social withdrawal while living in Manchester. The court sentenced him to three years and one month in prison.The victim described feeling tainted and frightened during the abuse, suffering from nightmares and post-traumatic stress disorder that impacted their mental health and personal life, necessitating lifelong antidepressant medication. It was revealed that the abuse happened over several months, during which Davison kept it secret and used the threat of his dog to silence the victim. The prosecution emphasized the profound and enduring psychological effects, with the victim reporting ongoing nightmares and feelings of shame, stating: 'I wake screaming and terrified. There is not a corner of my life that has gone untouched by his evil hand.' The trauma also led to difficulties in forming relationships and maintaining employment.
Authorities only uncovered Davison's crimes after the victim came forward in 2017, following the imprisonment of someone they knew for similar offences. He faced charges of six counts of indecent assault, two counts of inciting a child to commit gross indecency, and two counts of buggery. His initial denial was eventually replaced by a guilty plea. His defense attributed his actions to a difficult childhood and social isolation, presenting it as mitigating circumstances. The judge responded by sentencing Davison to prison, emphasizing the gravity of his crimes and their lasting effect on the victim.
