TERRY COLEMAN, DANGEROUS SEX OFFENDER FROM AYLESFORD, SENTENCED TO SIX YEARS FOR ONLINE GROOMING AND CHILD SEX OFFENSES
Terry Coleman, a man with a troubling history as a convicted sex offender from Aylesford, has been handed a six-year prison sentence following a series of disturbing online behaviors that culminated in his arrest. The court proceedings revealed that Coleman, aged 60 and residing at McKenzie Close, Royal British Legion Village in Aylesford, engaged in highly inappropriate and illegal activities involving a teenage girl he believed to be just 13 years old. In reality, the girl was an undercover police officer, posing as a minor to gather evidence against him.It was disclosed during the trial that Coleman had previously been convicted in 2021 for making and distributing child abuse images. Despite this prior conviction and the imposition of a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO), he continued to breach court orders and used various online platforms to communicate illicitly. His online activities persisted even with monitoring software in place, demonstrating a blatant disregard for legal restrictions and the safety of minors.
The court heard that Coleman actively groomed the undercover officer, engaging in conversations that quickly escalated into sexually explicit exchanges. He encouraged her to touch herself, sent explicit images, and even shared live videos of himself masturbating. These actions underscored his dangerous predatory behavior and his refusal to cease such conduct despite previous convictions and court interventions.
When police finally arrested Coleman, they discovered he was operating under multiple usernames, attempting to conceal his identity and evade detection. Additionally, officers found cannabis in his possession, further complicating his criminal profile. Coleman admitted to several charges, including attempted sexual communication with a minor, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and possession of indecent images.
The judge overseeing the case described Coleman as a “dangerous sexual pervert,” emphasizing the ongoing threat he posed to young girls and the community at large. The sentencing reflected the severity of his actions and his continued pattern of offending. It was made clear that upon his release from prison, Coleman will be subject to indefinite sex offender notification requirements, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities to protect potential victims in the future.
