TERRENCE HAYWARD OF CLEVEDON JAILED FOR DEPICTING CHILDREN IN INDECENT IMAGES AND MOVIES
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Clevedon, a local man named Terrence Hayward has been found guilty of possessing a vast collection of indecent images and videos depicting children. The case came to light after authorities uncovered the extent of his illicit activities, revealing a troubling pattern of exploitation and abuse.Terrence Hayward, aged 71 and residing on Cherry Avenue in Clevedon, pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to the possession and creation of indecent images of children. Specifically, he admitted to making a staggering total of 31,583 indecent images and 324 videos, all involving minors. His actions prompted a serious legal response, culminating in his sentencing at Bristol Crown Court.
Judge James Patrick presided over the case and sentenced Hayward to 18 months in prison. Additionally, he was subjected to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, which aims to restrict his access to children and prevent further offenses. The judge described Hayward’s sexual interests as “so entrenched” that he demonstrated little understanding of the harm inflicted upon the young victims depicted in the images and videos.
During the sentencing, Judge Patrick emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “They would have known they were being filmed or photographed for the sexual gratification of people like Hayward. The abuse is bad enough without knowing people watch them for their own gratification.” This comment underscores the traumatic impact such exploitation has on the victims, who are often unaware of their victimization at the time of abuse.
The case was initiated after police in the United Kingdom received information in 2017 indicating that Hayward’s IP address was being used to share indecent images of children. The alert was raised by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in the United States, which flagged the activity for further investigation. Following this tip-off, authorities conducted a search of Hayward’s residence in December 2017.
During the search, law enforcement officers seized three hard drives and six CDs, which were subjected to forensic analysis. The examination revealed a disturbing collection of both still images and moving videos, dating back from July 2005 to November 2017. The images ranged from 2,309 in the most severe Category A classification—indicating the most serious abuse—to 26,575 in Category C, which is considered less severe but still deeply troubling.
The collection also included 324 videos depicting children being sexually abused. The victims were identified as female minors aged between six and twelve years old. When questioned by police, Hayward claimed that some of the images were already stored on his devices when he purchased them, but investigators quickly saw through his falsehood and continued their case against him.
Hayward’s actions have not only resulted in his imprisonment but have also raised serious concerns about the safety and well-being of children in the community of Clevedon. His case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing need for vigilance and robust law enforcement efforts to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable minors from harm.
