TERRENCE CADMAN FROM BANGOR SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES INVOLVING BOY IN BANGOR
In March 2018, a disturbing case unfolded at Caernarfon Crown Court involving Terrence Cadman, a 67-year-old former builder from Bangor, who was sentenced to an additional three years and four months in prison for serious sexual offences committed against a young boy between the years 2002 and 2004.Cadman was already serving a 15-year sentence for abusing multiple boys, but the court heard that his criminal conduct extended further, involving a different victim. The court was informed that Cadman had taken the boy, who was aged 15 and 16 at the time, on fishing trips around Bangor and had used gifts and other forms of grooming to manipulate him. The prosecution revealed that Cadman had threatened the young victim, warning that if he disclosed the abuse, he would disappear and never be seen again, a tactic aimed at silencing the boy and maintaining control over him.
The judge, Niclas Parry, described the case as particularly shocking, emphasizing the grooming of a vulnerable adolescent over a two-year period. The court also noted that Cadman had previously committed offences against three other boys approximately twenty years earlier, indicating a pattern of predatory behavior.
It was revealed that Cadman was scheduled to be released from his initial 15-year sentence in August 2022, but due to the new charges and subsequent sentencing, he will now be required to serve the additional term. A Sexual Harm Prevention Order was imposed, explicitly prohibiting him from having any contact with his victim or engaging in unsupervised contact with any child under the age of 18.
Judge Parry stated that the abuse was estimated to have occurred between 60 and 80 times, highlighting the extent and severity of Cadman’s misconduct. The defendant pleaded guilty to seven counts of sexual abuse, acknowledging his culpability in this serious case. The court’s decision underscores the gravity of the offences and the ongoing threat posed by individuals who abuse their positions of trust, especially within communities like Bangor where the crimes took place.
