CARE WORKER JAILED FOR HORRIFIC SEXUAL ABUSE OF ELDERLY WOMEN IN CARE HOMES

The care worker Teo-Valentin Todorovits has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for committing horrific sexual crimes against elderly women in care homes. Over a period of three years, Todorovits targeted vulnerable patients suffering from dementia or mental disorders, some of whom could not report his abuse. His crimes include raping, sexually abusing, filming grotesque videos, and making victims eat soil. The investigation was sparked after staff discovered a used condom in the corridor of the first care home where he worked. His DNA was later matched to evidence found inside the condom. Todorovits was arrested in October 2022 at Luton airport after continuing to abuse victims at a second care home where he had been employed for six months. During police interviews, he initially denied the abuse but later admitted to sexually touching multiple women for his own gratification and raping one victim. The judge described his actions as "shocking, vile and depraved" and emphasized that he targeted victims unable to protest or defend themselves due to their dementia or frailty. Families of victims expressed devastation, describing their loved ones as now fearful and wary. Todorovits's actions have been classified as a gross abuse of trust, considering his role as a carer, and he now faces an indefinite sexual harm prevention order. He will also serve an extended license period of six years. The police confirmed that he poses a significant risk to the public, and authorities continue to investigate failures by police officers to act sooner. The care regulator was alerted to allegations against Todorovits in August 2021 but closed its investigation once the police had started but later reopened the case in late 2022, inspecting both care homes involved. Todorovits has no prior convictions and showed no remorse for his crimes during sentencing. The local police noted that this case was the result of an extensive investigation and expressed hope that the sentence provides some comfort to the victims and their families.
