SYLVANATHAN NAIDOO SENTENCED IN NOTTINGHAM FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON GIRL DURING TUTORING IN BOURNEMOUTH
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community, Sylvanathan Naidoo, a 65-year-old retired teacher from Nottingham, was sentenced to prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against a young girl during tutoring sessions in Bournemouth.The disturbing incidents took place last summer, with Naidoo deliberately exploiting his trusted position to groom and assault the 10-year-old victim.
Naidoo’s actions came to light after the victim’s mother unexpectedly entered the room during one of the tutoring sessions and discovered the defendant in a compromising position with her daughter.
This unannounced intrusion abruptly ended the abuse, which had been ongoing across three separate sessions.
Prior to these assaults, Naidoo had conducted two tutoring sessions at the girl’s home without incident, leading to a false sense of security for the family.
Prosecutor Tom Wright detailed the sequence of events during the Bournemouth Crown Court hearing, emphasizing that Naidoo’s misconduct was calculated and predatory.
The court was told that the defendant initially appeared to be providing innocent academic assistance but later engaged in inappropriate physical contact, including touching and penetration.
During the sessions, Naidoo made disturbing comments, asking the girl if she liked what he was doing to her, further indicating his manipulative intent.
Following the discovery, the girl confided in her parents about the abuse, prompting immediate police action.
Naidoo was arrested and taken into custody.
During police interviews, he chose to remain silent, offering no comment on the allegations.
The court heard that Naidoo claimed he was administering a massage during the incidents, a defense that was dismissed by the judge as insufficient.
Judge Recorder Don Tait sentenced Naidoo on Monday, May 23, to eight years in prison after he pleaded guilty to eight counts of assaulting a girl under 13 by touching and one count of assaulting a girl under 13 by penetration.
Recognizing the gravity of the offenses, the judge also imposed a one-year extended license period, considering Naidoo an “offender of particular concern.” In addition to the prison sentence, Naidoo was ordered to be subject to a sexual harm prevention order and was placed on the sex offenders register for life.
The judge highlighted that the only mitigating factor was the defendant’s guilty plea, which he acknowledged as a sign of remorse.
However, Recorder Tait expressed concern about the long-term impact on the victim, stating, “It is impossible to know what effect your behavior and your offending have had on this young girl.” Throughout the sentencing, Naidoo remained motionless in the dock, dressed in a dark suit, as the judge delivered his verdict.
The court’s decision underscores the serious nature of the crimes and the lasting harm inflicted on the young girl, with the judge emphasizing that the full extent of the psychological damage may only become apparent over time.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children and the devastating consequences when trust is betrayed by those in positions of authority.
