SWADLINCOTE MAN SYDNEY EVANS JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES IN DERBY
In a case that has shocked the local community of Swadlincote, Sydney Evans, a 51-year-old resident of Linton, was sentenced to eight months in prison after being found guilty of possessing child pornography. The conviction was handed down at Derby Crown Court, where it was revealed that Evans had stored and accessed illicit images involving minors. The court heard that authorities uncovered disturbing evidence on Evans' computer, which included a total of 270 images. Among these, 165 were classified as erotic poses involving children, while 64 depicted obscene images with adults, some of which involved infants. The investigation was initiated after American authorities linked Evans’ details to a child pornography site during an international probe into Landslide Productions.
Prosecutor Catherine Bacon explained that Evans had been arrested in July 2003, after his personal information was traced back to the illicit activities. It was also revealed that Evans had paid to access a child pornography website back in 1999, indicating a pattern of involvement with such material over several years.
During police interviews, Evans claimed that he had not knowingly subscribed to the site. Instead, he stated that he had merely 'clicked through' from adult pornography sites out of curiosity, attempting to downplay his role in the distribution and possession of these illegal images.
Judge John Wait, presiding over the case, emphasized the severity of Evans' actions, describing his curiosity as a justification that did not mitigate the harm caused by his involvement in the 'filthy trade.' The judge sentenced Evans to eight months in prison and ordered a three-year period of supervised release following his release. Additionally, Evans was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for a decade, reflecting the serious nature of his offenses and the potential risk to the community.
