SUSAN FOSTER FROM SCUNTHORPE SENTENCED FOR POISONING NEIGHBOUR'S DOG WITH DEADLY MEAT

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Scunthorpe, Susan Foster, born on September 3, 1961, and most recently residing on Hazel Avenue in Crowle, was found guilty of deliberately poisoning her neighbour’s family dog. The incident, which took place in June 2020, involved the malicious act of throwing meat contaminated with toxic substances into her neighbour’s garden, leading to tragic consequences for the beloved pet.

The victim was a German shepherd named Roxy, who was found to have ingested the poisoned meat. Roxy’s owners noticed her becoming increasingly lethargic, vomiting repeatedly, and refusing to eat, which prompted immediate concern. They took her to a veterinarian, where she received intravenous fluids and antibiotics in an attempt to treat her condition. Despite these efforts, her health continued to decline rapidly, and her prognosis was deemed very poor.

After four days of suffering, Roxy was euthanized on humane grounds to prevent further pain and suffering. Veterinary analysis of the meat that Roxy had consumed revealed the presence of antifreeze and rodenticide, confirming that the meat had been intentionally contaminated with toxic substances. This evidence was crucial in establishing the malicious intent behind the act.

Further investigation by the RSPCA, led by Inspector Bradshaw, uncovered footage showing items being thrown over the fence into Roxy’s owner’s property. It was also discovered that Susan Foster had interfered with her neighbour’s security camera, attempting to conceal her involvement in the incident. The investigation painted a clear picture of premeditated cruelty.

Inspector Bradshaw expressed his sorrow over the case, stating, “This was an incredibly sad case – Roxy was a beloved pet – and her owners were heartbroken by their loss. This act caused Roxy an immense amount of pain and suffering, and deteriorating clinical signs meant this poor dog ended up losing her life as a result.”

In court, Susan Foster was sentenced to a 26-week prison term, which was suspended for 12 months. She was also ordered to complete 15 days of rehabilitation activities, pay court costs amounting to £2,040, and provide £627 in compensation to Roxy’s owners. Additionally, she was subjected to a £120 victim surcharge and disqualified from keeping all animals for a period of 12 months, a ban that expired in December 2022.

This case highlights the devastating impact of animal cruelty and the importance of vigilant investigation and prosecution to protect vulnerable pets and their owners in communities like Scunthorpe.
