SUSAN BARRY FROM WELWYN GARDEN CITY CONVICTED OF CRUELTY TO DOGS
In a recent court case, Susan Barry, also known as Sue Marie McKernon, born on January 27, 1961, faced justice for her involvement in animal cruelty. Residing at Barndicott House in Barndicott, Welwyn Garden City, Barry was found guilty of neglecting the welfare of three dogs under her care. The charges stemmed from her failure to provide necessary veterinary treatment for her dogs, Diesel, Milo, and Molly, which resulted in unnecessary suffering.Barry admitted to causing harm by neglecting to address skin diseases that afflicted her dogs. Specifically, she failed to seek or provide medical attention for their skin conditions, which could have been alleviated with proper veterinary care. Additionally, Diesel, one of the dogs, was suffering from an eye disease that was left untreated, further highlighting her neglect.
The court heard that Barry's actions, or lack thereof, breached her responsibilities as a pet owner. She pleaded guilty to two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, as well as to the charge of failing in her duty to ensure the welfare of her animals. Her neglect not only caused pain and discomfort to Diesel, Milo, and Molly but also demonstrated a disregard for their well-being.
Sentencing was handed down, with Barry receiving a 12-week prison sentence, which was suspended for 12 months. She was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £154. Furthermore, she was disqualified from keeping dogs for a period of 12 months, a ban that will expire in September 2025. The case was reported by the Herts Advertiser, highlighting the importance of animal welfare and accountability for pet owners in the Welwyn Garden City area.
