STUART PITT BRIDGEND TEACHER JAILED FOR CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN BRIDGEND
In a case that has shocked the community of Bridgend, Stuart Pitt, a 76-year-old retired teacher, has been sentenced to prison after being found in possession of indecent images of children for the second time. The incident came to light during a court hearing held at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday, July 30, where Pitt pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to the possession of such illicit material.
Stuart Pitt, who resides alone at a property on High Street in Ogmore Vale, Bridgend, was discovered to have stored the illegal images on electronic devices that were seized during a police search of his home in April of the previous year.
The authorities' investigation revealed that Pitt had been in possession of these images on devices that he admitted owning, claiming that he used them primarily for downloading music, movies, and pornography.
However, during questioning, Pitt also acknowledged that sometimes inappropriate material might come through, and he would delete it immediately, asserting he tried to be cautious.
The court was informed that the devices contained multiple indecent images of children, including a moving image and a full-length movie.
Additionally, investigators detected the presence of file-sharing software on the devices, which raised further concerns.
One of the files was intriguingly titled “Pink Floyd,” seemingly an attempt to obscure the true nature of its content.
Prosecutor Joshua Scouller detailed that the police had attended Pitt’s residence on April 27 of the previous year to execute a search warrant.
During the search, Pitt admitted ownership of the devices but maintained that his use was limited to downloading legal content.
It was also revealed that Pitt had a prior conviction from 2017, when he was found in possession of extreme pornography and indecent images of children.
For that offense, he received a ten-month prison sentence, which was suspended for two years.
A sexual harm prevention order was also imposed at that time to restrict his access to certain materials and prevent further offenses.
Her Honour Judge Tracey-Lloyd Clarke presided over the case and addressed Pitt directly, stating that he was being sentenced on three counts of possessing indecent images of children and one count of breaching the sexual harm prevention order.
The judge pointed out that the evidence indicated Pitt had been actively searching for child pornography and had attempted to conceal his activities by using file-cleaning software to delete evidence.
She emphasized that his continued interest in such material crossed the threshold for custodial sentencing.
Concluding the hearing, Judge Lloyd-Clarke sentenced Pitt to a concurrent term of two years in prison.
She also specified that Pitt must serve at least half of this sentence before being eligible for release on license, underscoring the seriousness of his offenses and the ongoing risk posed by his actions.
The case has once again brought to light the dangers posed by individuals with a history of such offenses living within the community of Bridgend, prompting ongoing discussions about safeguarding and monitoring vulnerable populations.
