STUART PATON FROM CARLISLE SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS FOR EIGHT-YEAR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
In a significant case that has shocked the community of Carlisle, a local man named Stuart Ross Paton, commonly known as Ross, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for a prolonged period of sexual assault against a child. The crimes spanned over eight years, during which Paton subjected the victim to repeated acts of indecent assault, causing profound and lasting trauma.
Paton, aged 52 and residing on Houghton Road in Carlisle, was convicted on 18 counts of indecent assault on a male following a thorough investigation conducted by detectives from the North Cumbria Crime and Safeguarding Team.
The conviction came after an earlier trial where the jury found him guilty of the charges, highlighting the severity and persistence of his misconduct.
The victim, whose identity remains protected, delivered a heartfelt statement during the court proceedings, describing the devastating impact of Paton’s actions.
The individual stated, “Ross stole my childhood, my teenage years and now my adult life.
These are supposed to be the happiest years of your life, but he made mine a living hell.” This poignant testimony underscored the long-term emotional and psychological scars inflicted by Paton’s abuse.
Detective Constable Selena Cairns, who was involved in the case, emphasized the gravity of the situation and the emotional toll on the victim.
She remarked, “The words detailed in the victim’s personal statement show the true impact of Paton’s actions.
His despicable actions have subjected the victim to unimaginable suffering for the majority of his life.” Cairns further pointed out that Paton’s continued denial of the offences added to the victim’s suffering, forcing him to relive the trauma through court proceedings.
“It is without question that Paton has at no point shown any remorse whatsoever,” she added.
While the sentencing aims to serve justice, Cairns expressed hope that it would also help the victim find some measure of closure and begin the process of healing.
She praised the victim’s bravery throughout the investigation, acknowledging the courage it took to confront such a painful history.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding children and holding perpetrators accountable for their heinous actions in Carlisle and beyond.
