STEWART CUMBERS FROM PLYMOUTH CAUGHT WITH CHILD INDECENT IMAGES BOASTED ABOUT ABUSING BOYS
In a case that has shocked the community of Plymouth, Stewart Cumbers, a 31-year-old man residing on Fountains Crescent in the Pennycross area, was found to be in possession of indecent images of children and made disturbing claims about abusing boys. The incident came to light in May of the previous year when police executed a search warrant at his residence.
During the search, officers discovered a significant collection of illicit material stored on Cumbers' laptop computer and a memory stick.
The police investigation revealed that he possessed nearly 2,000 images, some of which fell into the most depraved categories depicting child abuse.
The evidence also showed that Cumbers had used the internet to search for child-related images, with numerous search terms indicating his intent and interest.
Furthermore, police uncovered conversations in which Cumbers boasted about having abused boys, revealing a disturbing pattern of behavior and a perverted mindset.
These conversations, along with the images, painted a clear picture of his involvement in child exploitation activities.
At Plymouth Crown Court, Cumbers pleaded guilty to charges of making indecent photographs of children, covering the period from 2011 to 2015.
He also admitted to possessing a prohibited image of a child.
His defense highlighted that he suffers from a chronic and painful medical condition, as well as a compulsive personality, which may have contributed to his actions.
During the court hearing, Cumbers broke down emotionally, expressing remorse and shame.
He told the judge, “I am absolutely ashamed.
It was out of character for me.
I was disgusted at the time, I just kept going back and back.
I don’t know why.” His emotional plea was an attempt to seek leniency, but the court was clear in its condemnation of his actions.
Judge Paul Darlow addressed the seriousness of the offenses, stating, “Out of the humiliation and degradation of these young boys, you gained sexual satisfaction.” Recognizing the gravity of the crimes, the judge sentenced Cumbers to nine months in prison, though the sentence was suspended for two years.
As part of his sentence, Cumbers is required to undergo probation supervision and participate in a program aimed at addressing sexual offending behavior.
Additionally, Cumbers is ordered to pay £400 in prosecution costs, and he will be required to sign the Sex Offender Register for the next ten years.
The court also ordered that all computer equipment used in the commission of the offenses be destroyed to prevent further misuse.
