STEVEN TAYLOR BISHOP AUCKLAND SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED AFTER OUTDOOR SEX WITH 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a recent court hearing at Teesside Crown Court, Steven Taylor, a 22-year-old resident of Bishop Auckland, was formally sentenced for engaging in unlawful sexual activity with a minor. The incident involved Taylor having sexual intercourse outdoors with a girl who was only 14 years old at the time. The court was told that Taylor’s actions took place in an outdoor setting, which added to the severity of the case.Following his admission of guilt, Taylor was spared a custodial sentence but was subjected to strict conditions aimed at monitoring and rehabilitating him. The judge ordered that Taylor be fitted with an electronic tag and placed on the sex offenders register for a period of five years. This measure is intended to ensure ongoing supervision and to prevent any further offenses.
Prosecutor Rod Hunt highlighted the troubling nature of the case, stating, “The defendant was at the very least reckless and turned a blind eye to the obvious.” It was revealed that the victim, after the incident, chose to keep the crime to herself and did not disclose what had happened to her family until more than a month later, indicating the trauma and fear she experienced.
Defense lawyer Chris Baker explained that Taylor’s actions were influenced by alcohol consumption and immaturity. He emphasized that Taylor has a history of anti-social behavior but is actively working to change his ways. Baker stated, “He has a record of anti-social behaviour which he is doing everything in his power to address. The person who stands before you today is not the immature young man he previously was.”
Judge Peter Bowers acknowledged the seriousness of the offense but also recognized the importance of rehabilitation. He remarked, “Normally, you would go to prison for this. However, if you do go to prison I cannot put you on a sex offenders treatment programme, which is what you need.” Instead, Taylor was sentenced to a three-year community rehabilitation order and will observe a curfew for the next six months. During this period, he will be monitored via electronic tagging to ensure compliance.
Additionally, the court noted that two further charges of unlawful sex and one of indecent assault against Taylor will be kept on file, serving as a reminder of the ongoing legal considerations related to his case.
