RETIRED POLICE CHIEF INSPECTOR INVOLVED IN CHILD INDECENCY IMAGES
A retired police officer, Steven Sansbury, formerly a chief inspector, has been involved in serious misconduct related to child exploitation.
He pleaded guilty to downloading 10 indecent images of children on devices kept at his home between January 26 and February 10, 2009.
Sansbury, who retired from Lancashire Police in 2022, was found to have made seven category B images of children aged 13 to 15 and three category C images of children aged 8 to 15.
His conviction was followed by a sentence at Manchester Crown Court in November, which included a 12-month community order with 80 hours of unpaid work and 10 days of rehabilitation.
He was also subjected to notification requirements for five years.
During his misconduct hearing, Detective Chief Inspector Eugene Swift confirmed that Sansbury was deemed to have breached professional standards, with the panel concluding that if he had still been a serving officer, he would have been dismissed for gross misconduct.
His name has been added to the police barring list, and it was noted that his conduct was discreditable and amounted to gross misconduct.
