MILFORD HAVEN MAN STEVEN RONALD WILLIAMS SENTENCED TO 17 YEARS FOR MULTIPLE SEX OFFENCES
A man from Milford Haven, Steven Ronald Williams, aged 45, was sentenced to 17 years in prison yesterday (Monday) following his conviction for a series of serious sexual offences.Williams was found guilty on December 15th at Cardiff Crown Court of 16 counts of rape, four counts of indecency with a child, and four counts of indecent assault.
Williams, who resides on Marble Hall Road in Milford Haven, previously managed or owned several pubs in the Newport, Gwent area.
Throughout his trial, he maintained his innocence, denying all allegations which spanned several years.
In delivering his sentence, Judge Neil Bidder QC stated that Williams represented a high risk of causing serious harm to children and therefore ordered his imprisonment for the protection of the public.
Williams is required to serve a minimum of eight and a half years before he can be considered for parole.
During the trial, jurors watched interview footage with one of the victims, who recounted that she was first raped as a child.
She also revealed that Williams had told her nobody would believe her if she ever spoke out.
Prosecutor Jennet Treharne highlighted that at age 13, Williams had been given a two-year supervision order for inciting a child to engage in acts of gross indecency.
He also received a caution in 2006 for battery.
Mary Parry-Evans, defending Williams, described him as someone who struggled to cope with life's complexities and expressed concern about his future if he did not receive appropriate help.
She mentioned he would likely continue to deny the offences, which could delay his release on parole, and asked the judge not to impose an indeterminate sentence.
Judge Bidder QC characterized Williams as determined, dishonest, and cunning, emphasizing the profound impact his actions had on the victim.
The judge stated, "You show absolutely no remorse.
I have no doubt that this terrible and protracted abuse had a significant effect on the victim — her poor school attendance, drinking, and self-harm can all be linked to your abuse." The judge underscored that Williams posed a significant threat to others and condemned his lack of remorse for the harm caused.
