SHOCKING REVELATION: STEVEN MIZON OF REDHILL AND MERSTHAM JAILED FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of Redhill, Merstham, and the surrounding areas, Steven Mizon, aged 65, was convicted of a series of heinous child sex offences and subsequently sentenced to 11 years in prison. The case came to light after a remarkable discovery: two individuals, who later married each other, revealed that they had both been victims of the same predator during their childhoods.

According to court proceedings at Guildford Crown Court, the two victims, a man and a woman, had grown up unaware of each other's experiences until after their wedding. During a candid conversation about their troubled pasts, they uncovered the horrifying truth that they had both been subjected to abuse by Steven Mizon, a man who was involved with a youth club in Surrey during the 1980s. This revelation prompted immediate action, leading to Mizon's arrest and subsequent prosecution.

The court heard that Mizon's criminal activities spanned several years, specifically between 1984 and 1990, when he was residing in Merstham, near Redhill, Surrey. The offences included multiple counts of indecent assault, indecency with a child, and rape. The victims, who later married and had three children together, confided in a relative about their experiences. This relative was so outraged that they wrote an angry letter to Mizon, which he responded to with a remorseful apology, expressing regret for the pain he had caused and stating that he would never forgive himself. This letter was introduced as a key piece of evidence during the trial.

Throughout the ten-day trial, Mizon denied 13 counts of indecent assault, one count of indecency with a child, and the charge of rape. The prosecution presented evidence that many of these offences involved multiple incidents committed against both victims. The male victim testified that Mizon subjected him to a series of sexual attacks during his youth, while the female victim recounted similar abuse, including a rape. The jury acquitted Mizon of two of the assaults against the girl but found him guilty of all other charges.

Prosecutor Mr. Alistair Sharpe emphasized that Mizon's actions were part of a pattern of predatory behaviour, with the defendant reportedly telling the girl, 'There are lots of men out there who would take advantage of you,' and offering to teach her how to handle such situations. Judge Peter Moss described Mizon as a 'controlling and dominant personality' who lacked insight into the damage he had inflicted. The case has left a lasting impact on the victims and the wider community, highlighting the importance of vigilance and justice in protecting vulnerable children from predators.
