A man received a five-year prison sentence after being convicted of sexually assaulting a teenage girl.
Tedros Goytom, aged 28, assaulted the girl, who was 16 years old at the time, while they were walking together near Winterthur Way in Basingstoke on September 2, 2022.
According to police, Goytom was sentenced following a trial at Winchester Crown Court.
The prosecutor revealed that the two individuals knew each other through social media.
Detective Constable Victoria Cobley, who led the Hampshire police investigation, described Goytom's conduct as "predatory and horrific," adding that his "despicable crime" had profoundly affected the victim and her family.
She commended the victim's bravery and expressed hope that the conviction would offer some measure of reassurance to her and her family.
"While nothing can undo what they have been through, I hope that knowing Goytom will now spend time behind bars will provide reassurance that we will do all we can to bring perpetrators to justice," she said.
"Our officers will not tolerate violence against women and girls in our communities, and it is our promise to anyone who comes forward that you will be believed and taken extremely seriously." At the time of the offence, Goytom was residing on Popley Way in Basingstoke, although his previous address was on Old Street, Hackney.
