REDCAR SEX OFFENDER STEVEN DADD SENTENCED FOR RAPE OF TEENAGER IN SHOCKING CASE

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Redcar, Steven Dadd was sentenced to an indefinite prison term after a harrowing incident involving the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl. The case came to light when a dictaphone, left inadvertently in a dressing gown pocket by Dadd’s wife, Elaine Dadd, captured audio evidence of her husband engaging in sexual activity with the underage girl inside their family home in east Cleveland.

Elaine Dadd, who was preparing to return to her work commitments, discovered the device had been activated and, upon listening to the recording, was horrified to hear her husband in the act. The recording revealed Dadd repeatedly assaulting the young girl, who was heard pleading for him to stop. Overcome with distress, Mrs Dadd immediately reported the incident to Cleveland Police.

Prosecutor Shaun Dodds addressed Teesside Crown Court, describing the emotional toll on Mrs Dadd, who was physically sick upon hearing the recording. The court was told that Dadd, who did not respond during police interviews, later wrote letters from prison in which he admitted to having sex with the girl but denied that he had used force.

Judge George Moorhouse, presiding over the case, ordered the courtroom to be cleared so he could listen to the recording in private. After reviewing the evidence, the judge condemned Dadd’s actions, emphasizing the gravity of the offence. He stated, “You have been in trouble many times in the past. This is an extremely serious offence which fully justifies a lengthy custodial sentence. I have read the report about you and I am quite satisfied that you present a significant risk of further harm to members of the public, especially females.”

Historical records of Dadd’s criminal history reveal a pattern of serious sexual offences. In 1979, he was sentenced to four years for raping a 16-year-old girl he had picked up in his car and taken to an isolated location. Further convictions include a six-month sentence in 1983 for another sexual offence, and in 1990, he received a sentence of seven years and nine months for attempting to rape an eight-year-old child. His criminal record also includes a 14-year sentence in 1996 for false imprisonment and grievous bodily harm after attacking a prostitute in wasteland.

During mitigation, Christopher Knox acknowledged Dadd’s acceptance of an indefinite sentence, noting that it spared the victim the ordeal of giving evidence. Nonetheless, Judge Moorhouse ordered that Dadd serve a minimum of five years before being considered for release, with the understanding that he would only be freed once he was no longer deemed a danger to the public. Additionally, Dadd was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which prohibits him from having unsupervised contact with individuals under the age of 16.

Previously residing on Glaisdale Avenue in Redcar, Steven Dadd, also known as Addison, pleaded guilty to a charge of rape committed in February of the previous year. His case has highlighted ongoing concerns about sexual safety and the importance of vigilant law enforcement in protecting vulnerable members of society.
