PERTHSHIRE DRIVER SENTENCED TO FOUR YEARS FOR DEADLY CRASH
Steven Allan caused Rebbeca Sivyer's death by dangerous driving in 2021.Allan alleged his girlfriend Rebecca Sivyer grabbed the steering wheel of his Vauxhall Corsa before the vehicle struck a fence and crashed into a tree on August 22, 2021, on the A94 Perth to Forfar road near Coupar Angus.
His claim was rejected by a jury who convicted him of causing her death by dangerous driving.
Allan failed to maintain control of the car, which crossed into the opposing lane, mounted a verge, and collided with a tree.
A judge told Allan, 33, that he was convicted of causing her death by dangerous driving and that Miss Sivyer, 23, left behind a young daughter.
Allan was sentenced to four years in prison, banned from driving for seven years, and will need to pass an extended driving test to regain his license.
The judge noted he suffered serious injury and had a previously good driving record but emphasized the seriousness of the offence required a custodial sentence.
The jury also found there was a single episode where Allan was distract by a handheld phone during the crash, and the court highlighted that Allan did not brake at any point.
He denied causing the death by dangerous driving, claiming his girlfriend's actions were responsible.
During the trial, Allan stated, “She grabbed the steering wheel.
I have kept it to myself for four years,” but the jury rejected this explanation.
The penalty reflects the gravity of the incident, and Allan's history of good conduct was considered in sentencing.
