PERTH MAN STEPHEN SELFEDGE SENTENCED FOR SHAMEFUL SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRLS IN EDINBURGH
In a case that has shocked the community of Perth and the wider Edinburgh region, Stephen Selfridge, a 43-year-old man from Perth, has been sentenced to five years in prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against young girls. The crimes, which spanned over a decade from 2004 to 2016, involved disturbing acts of physical and sexual abuse directed at two young victims, with one of the girls enduring ongoing abuse even after she became pregnant.
Selfridge’s actions came to light during a high-profile trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, where he was found guilty of 13 separate charges.
These charges included indecency offences, assault, and sexual assault, all of which painted a disturbing picture of a man who repeatedly violated the innocence of vulnerable children.
The court heard that Selfridge’s abuse was not impulsive but involved a significant degree of planning.
Judge Lord Uist addressed the court and the defendant directly, condemning his conduct as shameful and persistent.
The judge emphasized that the impact of Selfridge’s actions had long-lasting effects on the victims, describing the offenses as deeply damaging and morally reprehensible.
Throughout the proceedings, Selfridge maintained his innocence, denying the allegations and showing no remorse for his crimes.
His continued denial was noted by the court as a factor in the severity of his sentence.
Following his conviction, Selfridge was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities and restrictions to protect the community from potential future offenses.
The case has left a lasting scar on the victims and serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and justice in safeguarding children from abuse.
