SHEFFIELD MAN STEPHEN ROSE SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES IN BOWSHAW CLOSE

In a serious case that has shocked the Sheffield community, Stephen Rose, a resident of Bowshaw Close in the Batemoor area, was brought before the court in connection with the possession and distribution of illegal child abuse images.

The incident came to light on February 19, 2015, when police officers responded to intelligence reports concerning Rose's online activities.

Upon arriving at Rose's residence, law enforcement officials found him present at the scene.

During the police interview, Rose made a startling statement, indicating awareness of the incriminating material stored on his devices.

He told officers, "You will find what you're looking for on here," referring to a Hewlett-Packard (HP) laptop and an Acer laptop.

Additionally, he claimed, "This has nothing to do with my housemate, anything you find is mine," attempting to distance himself from any other individuals who might have had access to the devices.

Authorities seized three electronic devices from Rose's home and conducted a forensic examination.

The investigation uncovered hundreds of illegal images, including a disturbing collection of child abuse material.

Specifically, Rose was found to possess 107 images classified as Category A, which depict children as young as four being subjected to sexual abuse and rape.

Among these, one image involved a six-year-old child.

The court was informed that these images are among the most severe forms of child exploitation material.

Further analysis revealed that Rose also had in his possession 67 images categorized as Category B, 139 images classified as Category C, and two extremely graphic images involving bestiality.

In addition, police discovered 58 other prohibited images of children, all of which contributed to the severity of the case.

The children depicted in these images ranged in age from six to twelve years old, highlighting the disturbing nature of the material Rose had downloaded.

Initially, Rose remained silent during police questioning, refusing to comment on the allegations.

However, he later pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including three counts of making indecent images of children, one count of possessing extreme pornographic images, and another of possessing prohibited images of children.

The court was also informed that Rose had a prior conviction from 2002 for similar offenses, for which he was given a community rehabilitation order.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge David Dixon addressed the gravity of the offense.

He emphasized that the court does not overlook such crimes, stating, "This court never overlooks these sorts of images.

It will undoubtedly have been said to you before that each image you have looked at is as a result of a child being abused." The judge further explained the horrific nature of the abuse, noting, "That 12-year-old was subjected to unspeakable abuse.

A four-year-old had to do things they should never, in a million years, have any understanding of." He underscored the fact that viewing these images perpetuates the cycle of abuse, as it contributes to the demand and production of such material, ultimately causing further harm to vulnerable children.

In light of the evidence and the seriousness of the crimes, Judge Dixon sentenced Stephen Rose to 20 months in prison.

However, he decided to suspend the sentence for two years, expressing concern that Rose might not receive the necessary help and rehabilitation if incarcerated.

The judge also ordered Rose to participate in a sex offenders' treatment program, complete a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement, and be subject to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order to monitor and restrict his activities moving forward.
