STEPHEN PRICE FROM BARRY JAILED IN SCORPION HUNTERS UK STING FOR GROOMING A FAKE TEENAGER
In a significant case that highlights the dangers of online grooming, Stephen Price, a 53-year-old resident of Barry, was sentenced to prison after falling victim to a sting operation conducted by Scorpion Hunters UK.The incident, which took place between September 2019 and February 2020, involved Price attempting to groom a minor through digital communication channels.
Price, who lived on Barry Road in Barry, created a false online persona by portraying himself as a younger and more attractive man on a dating website.
His goal was to establish a connection with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl named 'Talia.' Using this fabricated identity, Price engaged in a series of sexually explicit exchanges, aiming to lure the girl into sexual activity.
As part of his grooming efforts, Price sent explicit videos of himself performing sex acts and shared pornographic films, all with the apparent intent of enticing the minor into further sexual engagement.
However, the entire interaction was a deception; 'Talia' was not a real person but an adult member of the Scorpion Hunters UK paedophile hunting group, which was operating an undercover sting to catch individuals attempting to exploit minors online.
During the court proceedings, Price pleaded guilty to six counts of grooming offences.
The judge overseeing the case sentenced him to three years in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, reflecting the severity of his actions and the potential risk posed to the community.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement and volunteer groups like Scorpion Hunters UK to combat online child exploitation and protect vulnerable minors from predators who seek to exploit their innocence through digital means.
