HEMEL HEMPSTEAD MAN STEPHEN MOORE JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON TEENAGE GIRL

In a case that has shocked the community of Hemel Hempstead, Stephen Moore, a 48-year-old man residing on The Glen, was sentenced to seven months in prison after pleading guilty to a serious sexual assault involving a 16-year-old girl. The incident, which took place on the night of December 13, 2005, has raised concerns about personal safety and the vulnerability of young individuals in the area.

According to court records, the young girl was sleeping in her home when she was unexpectedly confronted with Moore, who had entered her bedroom and climbed into her bed without her consent. She awoke to find Moore in her bed, and the court was told that he proceeded to molest her during this distressing encounter. The court heard that after the assault, Moore stood up but then lost his balance, falling back onto the bed, indicating a possible state of intoxication or disorientation.

Prosecutor Peter Shaw described the scene, stating that Moore had earlier sat beside the girl and had placed his hand on her leg, an act that contributed to the overall inappropriate behaviour leading up to the assault. The court was informed that Moore had been drinking heavily throughout the day and claimed to have no memory of the events that transpired.

Following the incident, the victim confided in a friend and later disclosed the details to her mother. Her mother promptly contacted the police, initiating an investigation into the matter. During police questioning, Moore admitted to having consumed alcohol all day but denied any recollection of the assault, which further complicated the case.

At an earlier hearing at St Albans Crown Court, Moore pleaded guilty to charges of sexual assault. The judge, Stephen Warner, emphasized the vulnerability of the victim and the breach of her sense of security. He condemned Moore’s actions, stating, “The victim was vulnerable. You took advantage of her. The conduct was preceded by inappropriate behaviour before. She was asleep in a room and was entitled to feel secure.”

In addition to the prison sentence, the judge ordered Moore to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years, reflecting the seriousness of his misconduct and the court’s commitment to protecting the community from potential future harm.
