STEPHEN JACKSON FROM PLYMOUTH JAILED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRL IN PLYMOUTH
In a recent case heard at Plymouth Crown Court, Stephen Jackson, a 47-year-old man from Plymouth, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing a young girl. The court proceedings revealed that Jackson had engaged in a series of sexual assaults against the girl over the course of nearly a year, from January to December of the previous year.
The jury, after careful deliberation, found Jackson guilty of the charges last month.
Despite the conviction, Jackson maintained his innocence throughout the trial, asserting that he was not responsible for the acts he was accused of.
The court, however, was convinced beyond reasonable doubt of his guilt based on the evidence presented.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Recorder Jonathan Fuller QC addressed Jackson directly, condemning his actions.
He stated, "You simply took advantage of the trust and innocence of this young girl.
That breach of trust and its repeated nature makes these offences serious ones." The judge emphasized the gravity of the crimes, highlighting the betrayal of trust involved in abusing a vulnerable young victim.
Jackson, who resides on St Margaret’s Road in Plympton, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a child.
However, he was acquitted of a more serious charge of attempted rape.
The court was informed that Jackson had no previous convictions related to sexual offences, which was considered during sentencing.
In light of the severity of the offences, Judge Fuller stated that only an immediate custodial sentence was appropriate.
Jackson was also disqualified from working with children and was ordered to remain on the sex offenders’ register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect potential future victims.
