STEPHEN HENDERSON FROM REDCAR CAUGHT IN PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS' TRAP IN TEESSIDE

In August 2021, a man from Redcar named Stephen Henderson found himself at the center of a disturbing online investigation after he was caught attempting to engage in inappropriate sexual communication with what he believed was a 14-year-old boy.

Henderson was targeted by a dedicated paedophile hunting team that had set up a fake social media account, portraying a teenage boy named 'Adam' in order to lure potential offenders.

According to court proceedings at Teesside Crown Court, Henderson initiated contact with the fictitious 'Adam' on Facebook, first sending a message that described the boy as 'sexy.' The fake account, which was part of the sting operation, indicated that 'Adam' was only 14 years old.

The two began exchanging messages about football, a common interest used to establish rapport with the supposed teenager.

However, as their conversation progressed, the tone shifted towards more explicit and sexual content.

Prosecutor Matthew Hopkins detailed that Henderson asked 'Adam' for photographs, complimenting his appearance and expressing interest in more intimate images.

The court heard that Henderson inquired about what 'Adam' found sexually arousing and suggested talking explicitly, asking him to send a photo of himself wearing only a shirt with 'nothing on down below.' The defendant's inappropriate intentions became clearer when he attempted to initiate a video call with the fictitious child and later sent a graphic image of his genitalia to the account.

Following these exchanges, the paedophile hunters confronted Henderson at his residence on Homerell Close in Redcar.

The group reported the incident to the police, and footage of the confrontation was circulated online, highlighting the seriousness of the case.

Henderson was subsequently arrested and brought before the court.

During the hearing, Henderson pleaded guilty to charges of attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child and attempting to incite a child under 16 to engage in sexual activity.

Judge Jonathan Carroll described the victim as a 'vulnerable' individual and noted that Henderson was unaware of the actual age of the person he was communicating with when he first started messaging the fake account.

In sentencing, Judge Carroll imposed a two-year community order on Henderson, requiring him to complete 40 days of rehabilitation and 180 hours of unpaid work.

Additionally, Henderson will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), aimed at preventing any future offending of a similar nature.

This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and community groups to combat online child exploitation and protect vulnerable individuals from predatory behavior.
