STEPHEN ELLIS JAILED FOR 19 YEARS IN HULL FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST CHILDREN
In a case that has shocked the community of Hull, Stephen Ellis, aged 40, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 19 years after being found guilty of a series of heinous sexual offences committed against three young victims. The conviction was handed down following a detailed trial at Hull Crown Court, where the court heard disturbing details of Ellis’s crimes, which spanned over six years from May 2004 to September 2010.
Ellis, who resides on Leslie Avenue in Hull, was convicted on a total of 15 counts related to his abusive conduct.
Among these charges were serious allegations of rape, sexual assault, and engaging in sexual activities with a minor.
The court was presented with evidence that one of his victims was only five years old at the time she was subjected to his abuse, highlighting the severity and depravity of his actions.
During the proceedings, a victim impact statement was read aloud in court by a woman who had been only 14 when Ellis began his offending.
She described the profound and lasting damage caused by Ellis’s actions, stating, “When he made sexual advances towards me he made me feel sick.
I was young and impressionable and I did not realize what he was doing was wrong.
The past will always be there.
I can’t forget it.
He’s made me feel dirty.” Her words underscored the deep emotional scars left by the abuse.
Another victim, who was also a minor at the time, revealed that she had attempted to take her own life as a direct result of the trauma inflicted upon her.
A statement read on her behalf by her barrister, Michele Stuart-Lofthouse, conveyed her ongoing struggle, saying, “I’m living a nightmare, I can’t put it into words.
I want to move forward with my life but I’m being held back by my past.
I do not deserve this.
I’m young, I should be happy.
I hope I can be one day.” Throughout the trial, it was disclosed that Ellis himself had a troubled past, having been sexually abused as a boy.
The court described him as an “extraordinarily troubled person,” which perhaps contributed to his own deviant behavior.
The judge, Mark Bury, emphasized the danger Ellis poses, stating, “There’s no doubt at all in my mind that you are a dangerous offender who poses a significant risk of causing serious sexual harm.” Ellis’s criminal record includes a range of serious charges, such as causing a child to engage in sexual activity, indecent assault, sexual activity with a child, indecency with a child, rape, taking indecent photographs of a child, and sexual assault of a child under 13.
The court’s verdict reflects the gravity of his crimes and the need to protect the community from further harm.
As Ellis begins his lengthy incarceration, the victims and their families are left to grapple with the trauma inflicted by his actions.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding children and the devastating impact of sexual abuse within communities like Hull.
