Law enforcement officials have praised the bravery of a victim who came forward to assist in securing the conviction of a man accused of abuse.
Stephen Davies, 27 years old with no permanent address in Huddersfield, received a 32-month prison sentence on Thursday, July 23, after admitting to coercive and controlling conduct towards his victim.
The sentencing took place at York Crown Court, coinciding with his first day in court, where he pleaded guilty to the charges.
The abusive behavior occurred between August and November 2025 in the Kirklees area.
Following the report, Davies was swiftly detained and later appeared before magistrates on November 10 of that same year.
In addition to his jail term, a 15-year restraining order was imposed, barring him from contacting his victim.
PC Reece Woodhead of the Kirklees Domestic Abuse Team commented: “The victim demonstrated remarkable bravery in supporting prosecution efforts against Davies for the serious offences he committed.
Her willingness to cooperate with police and the Crown Prosecution Service directly contributed to his imprisonment.” He continued: “We hope this outcome offers her some closure, especially with the restraining order now in place to ensure her safety.” The officer concluded by reaffirming the department’s commitment: “We want all victims of coercive and controlling behavior to know that we are here to listen, support, thoroughly investigate, and connect them with necessary services.”
