A woman from Kirklees has been recognized for her bravery after assisting in the conviction of four men responsible for her sexual abuse over three decades ago.
This development stems from an inquiry into the rape and sexual misconduct involving a teenage girl in the Kirklees and Wakefield areas, spanning the years from 1994 to 2000.
Law enforcement officials have condemned the abuse she endured as deeply disturbing and have expressed gratitude to the survivor for coming forward and reporting the crimes.
Jagtar Sahota, 64, of Leeds, received a sentence of 21 years in prison today (April 29) at Leeds Crown Court, after being convicted of 11 counts of rape and 11 counts of indecent assault.
He was also sentenced for one count of actual bodily harm, with all offenses occurring between 1997 and 2000.
On April 28, Zahid Hussain, aged 48, and Mohammed Chhibda, aged 49, were convicted of indecent assault against the same woman.
Both men, who hail from Dewsbury, committed their crimes between 1994 and 1997.
Additionally, Basharat Wali, 46, also from Dewsbury, had previously admitted to two counts of indecent assault.
Their sentencing is scheduled for June 4.
During the trial of Jagtar Sahota, the survivor’s statement was read aloud, describing the sexual abuse she endured at his hands.
She stated: “There are no words what this man has done to me.
He took something from me that I can never get back, and it’s not just what he did during the abuse but the lifelong damage that followed.
“The pain didn't stop when he left.
It stays with me every day.
It haunts me in ways I can't explain.
“I don’t know if I will ever find peace, but I am trying.
I am trying to piece myself back together, even if it’s just one broken part at a time.”
