ROTHERHAM PERVERT STEPHEN COCKING JAILED FOR VOYEURISM AT DONCASTER DOME
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Rotherham, Stephen Cocking, aged 53, was sentenced to prison after a series of heinous acts involving voyeurism and the possession of extreme indecent images. The incident came to light following an investigation that uncovered Cocking’s invasive activities at the Doncaster Dome Leisure Centre, located near Rotherham, where he had secretly recorded young girls and adults in the changing rooms.
According to court proceedings, Cocking had drilled a hole through a partition dividing the changing cubicles, enabling him to secretly film individuals as they changed.
The court heard that this act of covert filming took place around June 14 of the previous year.
Sheffield Crown Court was told that the facility, which has since upgraded its changing facilities, was the scene of Cocking’s invasive recordings.
The court was also informed that Cocking’s actions were motivated by a desire for sexual gratification, as evidenced by the videos and images he had downloaded.
Prosecutor Michael Tooley stated that the police believed Cocking or another individual had drilled the hole to facilitate the voyeuristic recordings.
The criminal activity was uncovered after shop workers on Mexborough High Street observed Cocking filming young girls and adults’ bottoms.
This led to his arrest on July 1 of the previous year.
During the police investigation, officers discovered that Cocking had downloaded a staggering 1,455 images and videos depicting child abuse, including footage recorded at the Doncaster Dome and in Mexborough.
The images found on Cocking’s devices were categorized into different levels of severity: 168 images classified as Category A, representing the most severe form of child abuse; 163 images in Category B; and 1,124 images in Category C.
Additionally, police uncovered 263 videos containing extreme content, including adults engaging in sexual acts with animals.
When questioned about his crimes, Cocking attempted to justify his actions by stating, “everybody likes a bottom,” a remark that further highlighted his disturbing mindset.
Judge Dixon, presiding over the case, emphasized the gravity of Cocking’s offenses.
He stated, “You made videos of males and females who thought they were in a private place where they thought they were entitled to privacy.
The only reason you did that is for your own sexual gratification.
You need to realize that what you were doing here was horrible and you need to realize it quickly.” As a result of his crimes, Cocking was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Furthermore, he was banned from entering swimming pools for a period of ten years.
The court also ordered him to notify the police if he changes his address or plans to go on holiday, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
This case underscores the serious consequences of voyeurism and the importance of safeguarding individuals’ privacy in public facilities, especially in places like Rotherham and Doncaster.
