STEPHEN CHARLTON FOUND GUILTY OF MURDER IN MIDDLESBROUGH

Stephen Charlton, 24 years old, has been convicted of killing his partner, Natalie Saunders, a mother of five, at their home in Middlesbrough. The murder took place in October, and Saunders died following a violent assault by Charlton. During the trial at Teesside Crown Court, it was revealed that Charlton had subjected Saunders to ongoing physical and emotional abuse throughout their relationship. Although he denied the murder, the court found him guilty and scheduled his sentencing for a future date, Thursday. Lorraine Cooper from the Crown Prosecution Service emphasized the risks of domestic abuse, stating that "Saunders chose to stay amidst violence and emotional distress." The court presented evidence of numerous injuries inflicted by Charlton, illustrating his capacity for rage and violence. Saunders' family shared their grief, expressing, "Domestic violence has taken a precious life from us and left our family serving its own life sentence. No other family should have to experience what we have, and more importantly, no other person should suffer in silence. Please speak up if you are subjected to domestic violence, whether physical or mental, big or small, because a simple call might save a life." This case highlights the devastating impact of domestic violence and underscores the importance of recognizing and acting against abuse.
