STEPHEN BROOKS SHOCKS SWANSEA WITH SICKENING CHILD ABUSE SCANDAL IN CHURCH

In a disturbing case that has rocked the community of Swansea, a local vicar named Stephen Brooks was sentenced to four years in prison after admitting to a series of heinous sexual offenses committed over a span of seven years. The court proceedings revealed that Brooks, aged 39 at the time, had engaged in indecent assaults on young boys, with a total of 19 specific counts acknowledged during the trial.

Judge Martin Stephens, presiding over Swansea Crown Court, delivered a stern judgment, condemning Brooks for his betrayal of trust and the profound harm caused. The judge stated, ‘You were destined for the highest position in the Church but you have caused immense harm and anguish,’ highlighting the gravity of the crimes committed by someone who was supposed to serve as a moral and spiritual guide.

The court was informed that the victims, eight in total, had suffered long-lasting psychological effects as a result of Brooks’ actions. One of the victims, now 19 years old, shared that he had turned to alcohol as a way to cope with the trauma and had even attempted to take his own life, underscoring the devastating impact of Brooks’ abuse.

Prosecutor Patrick Griffiths described Brooks as a ‘very well-liked man held in high regard and possessing considerable charisma.’ The court was told that Brooks’ reputation for integrity was unquestioned, and that children found him to be friendly and approachable, which he exploited to gain their trust. The sexual assaults took place at Brooks’ residence located within St Paul’s Church in the Sketty area of Swansea, where he would invite boys to visit him.
