STEFAN SCOTT AND HIS SHOCKING CRIMES IN PERTH
Stefan Scott, aged 26, has been convicted of a series of heinous crimes committed in Perth, including the rape of three women and a persistent pattern of physical and sexual abuse that spanned over seven years.His acts involved brutal violence, as he assaulted his victims by punching and strangling them, creating a terrifying environment of control and intimidation.
Scott's crimes were characterized by almost identical methods that he employed against each woman.
Witnesses and victims described how he would threaten them, use derogatory language such as calling them 'stupid bitch,' 'slag,' 'slut,' or 'whore,' and physically harm them through repeated punches.
His victims recounted how he would often grab them by the throat, exerting pressure during episodes of violence, and in one particularly horrifying incident, he held a woman’s head underwater during a rape.
These women, who cannot be named for legal reasons, bravely testified at the High Court in Livingston, describing how Scott’s pursuit of sexual acts was relentless and non-consensual.
The court heard that Scott’s violent tendencies were especially evident when his advances were refused.
The women gave similar accounts of how Scott’s insistence on sex was accompanied by threats and escalating violence.
During the five-day trial, three victims—aged 21, 29, and 33—described in disturbing detail how Scott would restrict their breathing by compressing their throats amidst their assault.
One woman, aged 33, told the court that he even held her underwater and raped her in different ways during a single terrifying incident.
In his defense, Stefan Scott claimed that all sexual activity he engaged in was consensual.
He denied the allegations that he refused to accept when women said no, insisting that if they were not willing, nothing happened.
He admitted to having frequent arguments with his partners and admitted to punching one of them on three occasions during a dispute.
However, he vehemently denied the allegations of strangulation and rape, a stance that the jury ultimately rejected.
Testimony from former partners, aged 25 and 26, painted a picture of relationships initially seemingly normal but quickly spiraling into controlling and violent behavior.
A police readout of evidence from a now-deceased 29-year-old woman described Scott pinning her to a bed with his hands around her neck for several minutes, which endangered her life.
She also testified about being hit, including an incident where he threw a pot of water containing pasta at her, forcing her to put her hands up to shield herself.
There was also an account of him punching her, causing a burst of her eyebrow, and pulling her by the ankles off a bed, resulting in a heavy fall.
Another woman, aged 26 at the time, detailed her six months relationship with Scott, which ended when she discovered he had been unfaithful with her best friend.
During their relationship, she said Scott repeatedly shouted and swore at her, calling her abusive names.
The friend, who later had to be hospitalized due to severe bruising and choke marks, provided police with a statement confirming Scott had threatened to burn her home, attempted to strangle her, pushed her onto the floor, and physically assaulted her to the point of injury.
She described being subjected to similar verbal abuse and threats as the other victims.
Following the verdict, advocate depute Cath Harper highlighted that Scott, of Rannoch Road, Perth, had prior convictions for domestic abuse and had served two separate 10-month prison sentences, with the most recent coming in August of the previous year.
The court, presided over by Lord Burns, ordered that further reports on Scott’s background and an assessment of the risk he poses, particularly towards women, be submitted before sentencing at Glasgow High Court scheduled for 5 April.
Until then, Scott remains in detention, and the court also ordered that Scottish Ministers be notified of the rape convictions under laws designed to protect vulnerable groups.
Additionally, Scott was informed that his name would be permanently listed on the sex offenders register as part of the legal proceedings and following the sentence.
