PARANOID MAN JAILED FOR STRANGLING HIS GIRLFRIEND AMID DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
A man named Stefan Bjegovic, aged 42, of Barry, engaged in violent domestic behavior towards his girlfriend. He first attacked her in December 2023 when he was angered by her speaking to someone on the phone.
During the incident, he grabbed her around the throat with significant strength and grip, falsely accusing her of sleeping with others, which terrified her.
She had to bite his thumb to free herself from his hold.
The court heard evidence that Bjegovic had previously pushed the victim at her home in January, causing her to fall and injure her ribs, and on another occasion, pushed her into a kitchen unit.
He also assaulted her on February 6 when he was irritated about her leaving to walk the dog.
Bjegovic was arrested and pleaded guilty to several charges, including intentional strangulation and assault by beating.
He has multiple convictions related to domestic assaults, battery, harassment, and criminal damage.
The court sentenced him to 16 months in prison, with the judge noting that his issues with paranoia, jealousy, and alcohol contributed to his behavior, and that he was working on changing.
He will serve half of his sentence in custody and the rest on licence.
