SOLOMAN SANYAS SENTENCED TO TEN YEARS IN PRISON FOR RAPE IN SHEFFIELD
A man identified as Soloman Sanyas has been handed down a severe punishment of ten years behind bars following a conviction related to a frightening assault that took place in Sheffield. The incident, which occurred last year, has shocked the local community and brought attention to issues of personal safety and criminal behavior.
The case was thoroughly prosecuted at Sheffield Crown Court, where Sanyas, aged 46 and residing on Wincobank Avenue, faced multiple serious charges including rape, witness intimidation, and assault.
Over the course of the trial, which lasted a week, the court heard the disturbing details of how the assault unfolded.
On May 16, 2021, Sanyas forcibly entered the victim’s home while she was not present.
Unbeknownst to her, he gained access through a window, which forensic investigators later confirmed was forced open after Sanyas used garden furniture to climb into her property.
When the victim returned home unexpectedly and discovered Sanyas inside, a confrontation ensued.
The court heard that after a verbal altercation, Sanyas physically dragged the woman down the stairs and proceeded to sexually assault her in her living room.
The trauma inflicted on the victim was compounded by her subsequent experiences during the investigation, during which she displayed extraordinary bravery and resilience.
Detectives and forensic teams responded swiftly to the crime scene, collecting evidence that linked Sanyas to the breach of privacy and the assault.
During the investigation, Sanyas attempted to intimidate the victim multiple times and even had associates threaten her with warnings to discourage her from cooperating with police.
Despite these threats, the victim remained steadfast and continued to support the legal process, ensuring that justice could be served.
PC Bernice O'Brien of the Sheffield Protecting Vulnerable People Team commented on the case, expressing admiration for the victim’s courage.
She emphasized that the victim’s steadfastness prevented Sanyas from causing further harm and contributed to the successful conviction.
The officer also praised the conviction's significance, stating, “During this investigation the victim has showed great bravery throughout and I would like to commend her for continuing to ensure Sanyas receives the punishment he deserves.” On Tuesday of the trial week, Sanyas was officially sentenced to ten years in prison after being found guilty on all charges.
In addition to his custodial sentence, he was imposed a restraining order that prohibits any contact with the victim for ten years.
The judge’s decision reflects the seriousness of the offenses committed within Sheffield, and serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who commit such crimes.
This case highlights the importance of community vigilance and the resilience of victims who face intimidation and violence.
The authorities have reiterated their commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable, with Sanyas now paying a significant price for his actions in Sheffield.
