SIMON WINDLE SHOCKINGLY WALKS FREE AFTER SEXUAL ASSAULT IN SHEFFIELD NEIGHBOURHOOD
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Sheffield community, Simon Windle, a 48-year-old man from Knowle Road near Parson Cross, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl but was ultimately allowed to walk free from court.The incident, which took place in Sheffield, was captured on camera footage and revealed a troubling pattern of inappropriate behavior involving Windle and the young girl.
According to court proceedings held on September 7 at Sheffield Crown Court, Windle was observed smoking an e-cigarette outside a different location in Sheffield, where the young girl was playing with two friends.
It was during this time that he committed the sexual assault, an act that was brought to light through the intervention of a vigilant neighbour.
The neighbour, noticing Windle giving his e-cigarette to the girl, confronted him and subsequently provided camera footage to the girl’s mother, which became crucial evidence in the case.
Prosecutor Nicola Quinney detailed the disturbing footage, revealing that Windle had been seen in multiple instances sharing his e-cigarette with the children, either by giving it directly or by blowing smoke and inhaling the vapour in their presence.
The footage further showed Windle blowing smoke up the young girl’s skirt, an act that added to the severity of his misconduct.
Most alarmingly, the footage captured Windle placing his hand under the girl’s skirt, an act of molestation that was corroborated by the young girl herself.
The girl’s father confronted Windle after the incident, and during a subsequent conversation with his daughter, she confirmed that Windle had touched her genitals over her clothing.
For legal reasons, the girl’s identity remains protected, but her testimony and the evidence presented in court painted a clear picture of Windle’s inappropriate actions.
The young girl disclosed to police that Windle had touched her in a sexual manner over her pants, a revelation that added gravity to the case.
Windle, who has a prior conviction from 2003 unrelated to this case, pleaded guilty to the charge of sexual assault on a child, which stemmed from the incident in May 2019.
Despite the severity of the allegations and the evidence presented, the court’s decision was met with disappointment from many in the community.
Judge Thomas acknowledged the emotional toll on the young girl’s family, emphasizing their efforts to move past the trauma.
He expressed hope that the child could grow up without the incident adversely affecting her future.
As part of his sentencing, Windle was given a two-year community order that includes a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement.
Additionally, he was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for five years and was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for the same duration, measures intended to monitor and restrict his activities moving forward.
Despite the gravity of the case, the court’s decision to impose a community order rather than a custodial sentence has sparked debate and concern among local residents and advocacy groups.
