SIMON WEIR'S VIOLENT OUTBURST IN PERTH LEAVES COURT SHOCKED
A 41-year-old man named Simon Weir, residing in Airlie View, Alyth, found himself at the center of a disturbing violent incident that unfolded at The Grill, a popular pub located in Flesher’s Vennel, Perth. The incident, which was detailed during a court hearing, involved a brutal assault on Weir’s former girlfriend, with whom he had not maintained contact for approximately two months prior to the attack.
According to court reports, the confrontation escalated quickly after Weir encountered the woman at the pub.
In a fit of rage, he first poured water over her head, an act that seemed to ignite his fury.
Without warning, he then grabbed her by the neck, forcefully pinning her against a wall inside the establishment.
The assault continued as Weir repeatedly struck her in the head, causing visible distress and injury.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV footage, which was subsequently shown during the proceedings at Perth Sheriff Court.
Initially, the prosecution considered seeking a custodial sentence for Weir, citing the violent and criminal nature of his actions.
However, after discussions with his legal representative, David Holmes, a plea was made for a more lenient punishment.
The court ultimately decided to impose a community payback order, requiring Weir to complete 180 hours of unpaid work over the course of six months.
The judge acknowledged the severity of the assault, describing Weir’s behavior as both 'criminal and violent,' and noted that he would have been justified in being sent to prison.
Nonetheless, the court opted for a less severe penalty, emphasizing the importance of rehabilitation.
The victim was found outside the pub shortly after the incident, visibly distressed but refusing medical treatment.
She did, however, report experiencing pain in her hand and a lump on her head, indicating she had sustained injuries during the assault.
During court proceedings, Weir’s lawyer revealed that after their separation, the victim continued to contact him, and he had seen her at the bar where the incident took place.
It was reported that Weir lost his temper upon seeing her there, which contributed significantly to his violent outburst.
During the hearing, Weir expressed remorse for his actions, acknowledging the gravity of what transpired and showing some level of regret for his conduct.
