SIMON LOMAS SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC ATTACK IN SHEFFIELD'S WOODHOUSE NEIGHBORHOOD

A man identified as Simon Lomas has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term following a series of heinous sexual offences and violent assaults committed in the Woodhouse area of Sheffield. The incident, which has left a lasting impact on the victim, occurred on the 12th of April, when Lomas carried out a brutal attack that police have described as 'cruel, violent, and horrific.'

According to reports, the victim, whose identity remains protected, reported the assault to local authorities shortly after the incident. Law enforcement officers responded swiftly, leading to Lomas's arrest. Despite his initial denial of the charges, the case proceeded to trial at Sheffield Crown Court. On the 27th of January, the court found Lomas guilty of multiple serious offences, including rape, assault by penetration, and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was acquitted of a second charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.

Following the conviction, Lomas was sentenced to a decade behind bars. Additionally, the court imposed an indefinite restraining order, explicitly prohibiting him from making any contact with the victim. The sentencing took place on a Thursday, marking a significant moment of justice for the victim and the community.

Investigating Officer Amy Todd described the attack as lasting approximately 15 minutes, emphasizing the brutality of the assault. She stated, “Lomas subjected his victim to a cruel, violent, and horrific attack. I am glad that he will have a decade behind bars to reflect on his savage actions, which caused the victim unimaginable pain.”

Officer Todd also highlighted the emotional toll on the victim, noting that Lomas’s refusal to accept responsibility initially added to her suffering. However, she expressed satisfaction that justice had been served, affirming that Lomas’s actions were deplorable and that his conviction was well-deserved.

South Yorkshire Police praised the bravery of the victim for coming forward and reporting the crime. They also expressed hope that the sentence would provide her with some degree of closure after the traumatic ordeal. The case underscores the importance of community vigilance and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat violent and sexual crimes within Sheffield and beyond.
