SIMON GAMAGE FROM CLAYTON-LE-MOORS SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Clayton-le-Moors, Simon Gamage, aged 39, was found guilty of a series of serious sexual offenses involving a young schoolgirl. The abuse spanned over a period of more than three and a half years, during which Gamage repeatedly engaged in inappropriate and coercive behavior towards his young victim.

The court was informed that Gamage not only sexually assaulted the girl but also coerced her into touching him in a sexual manner. The victim, who was understandably frightened and distressed, struggled to process what had happened to her and attempted to block out the traumatic memories. Her efforts to seek help eventually led to the case coming to light.

Following her disclosure, authorities launched an investigation that culminated in Gamage’s arrest in December of the previous year. During police interviews, Gamage initially appeared upset and distressed, but under further questioning, he admitted to touching the girl. This admission was a crucial turning point in the case, prompting police to seize his computer for further examination.

The forensic analysis of Gamage’s computer revealed a disturbing collection of indecent images of children. Specifically, police discovered 11 such images stored at levels one and two on his device. These levels indicate the severity of the images, with level five being the most serious, and the presence of these images added a grave dimension to the case.

Gamage, who resides on Sparth Road in Clayton-le-Moors, had no prior criminal convictions before this case. However, he was already known to authorities after being convicted on March 13 of possessing two indecent photographs of children. Magistrates had committed him for sentencing on those charges prior to the current case.

At Burnley Crown Court, Gamage pleaded guilty to a total of 11 charges, which included sexual assault on a child and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. The court heard that the offenses were persistent and deeply troubling, reflecting a pattern of predatory behavior.

Judge Simon Newell sentenced Gamage to a two-year prison term, emphasizing the seriousness of his actions. In his remarks, the judge highlighted the concerning nature of the case, noting that Gamage’s behavior was not only sexually abusive but also involved viewing highly inappropriate images of underage girls. The judge underscored the importance of safeguarding children and warned about the potential risks Gamage posed for the future.

In addition to the custodial sentence, Gamage was subjected to an indefinite sexual offences prevention order, restricting his contact with minors and monitoring his activities. He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register, ensuring ongoing oversight of his conduct. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and swift justice in protecting vulnerable children from exploitation and abuse.
